The Tambellini Group Opens Nominations for Annual CIO Award

Award Recognizes Excellence within Higher Education Technology Leadership

Irvington, Virginia – January 16, 2018 – The Tambellini Group, the world’s leading independent research and advisory firm dedicated exclusively to higher education, has announced the opening of nominations for the 2018 Tambellini CIO Award.

The Tambellini Group sponsors the annual CIO Award as a recognition of excellence within higher education technology leadership. Vicki Tambellini, President and CEO of The Tambellini Group, explained, “The CIO Award process exemplifies our Tambellini mission to capture, validate, and share insights on vital information for the higher education technology community.”

The award highlights IT leaders who demonstrate effective leadership, innovation, and creativity in planning and deploying modern technology. It identifies those who go above and beyond in helping their colleagues and offering positive and compelling contributions to the higher education community.

“Through this award,” Tambellini continued, “current, future, and past CIOs will be reminded of the difference one person’s leadership and commitment can make in the advancement of education technology and to the profession of being a CIO in higher education.”

The award honors Dr. Wayne Brown, a long-time Vice President of Information Technology and CIO at Excelsior College who has devoted his professional and academic studies to CIO attributes and effectiveness in higher education. He formed the Center for Technology Leadership (CTL), an Excelsior-based, not-for-profit, professional development and training center for chief information officers. Since 2003, Dr. Brown has led the CHECS CIO study, which provides valuable information about higher education CIOs’ attributes, education, experience, and effectiveness.

Nominations are solicited each January from professionals responsible for technology leadership at higher education institutions, and may be made at the Tambellini website. This year, nominations will close on February 2, 2018.

Individuals may be nominated by their colleagues at any institution, or may put their own name into nomination. Persons being nominated are not required to have a CIO title, but must be a high-ranking IT executive within the college or university. Nominations for CIOs that currently work or have retired in the immediate past year are eligible to receive this award.

Judging of the nominations is carried out by the Executive Advisory Council of The Tambellini Group, representing technology leadership at higher education institutions throughout the country.

The 2018 Tambellini CIO Award winner will be announced on February 26, 2018.
